Nosy Tany Kely and Nosy Komba

Among the strings of islands which surround Nosy Be, Nosy Komba and Nosy Tany Kely can easily be visited during a one day trip. Nosy komba is a big mountain rising from the water between the Main Island and Nosy be; its impressive shape is due to its volcanic origins.
Nosy Tany kely and Nosy Komba
For some years it has been protected from deforestation and it is covered with a lush green forest, whatever the season. Its name means Lemur Island and it is true that swarming macaco lemurs can be easily observed, used as they are to be fed with bananas by tourists. There are several villages on the island; Antamotamo is specialised in the construction of pirogues and Ampamgoriana provides visitors with a variety of accommodation. The pirogues lined along the beach, the little path which winds across the village and the total absence of cars give Ampamgoriana a special kind of charm. It is also possible to hike up to the summit and to visit vanilla plantations or a typical sugar cane liquor factory.

Just opposite Nosy Komba, a one hour crossing by motor boat, Tany Kely islet, surrounded by coral rocks, is a natural aquarium filled with multicolour tropical fish and sea turtles. It is a submarine reserve and the ideal place for a scuba diving initiation or just snorkelling to enjoy the beauty of the underwater world. A little path leads to an old out of use lighthouse which offers a beautiful panorama and enables one to watch bats (roussettes) and, if one is lucky, an Ankoay eagle, an endemic species now endangered.
